5 Easy Tips for Studying and Passing College Tests

It's my junior year at Hawaii University with classes resuming this Monday, January 11th!

While I'm not super thrilled with the idea of returning to classes (I have been a beach bum for the last 3 weeks), I am excited about the classes I'm enrolled in and I'm even more excited about moving closer to student teaching and final graduation.

I'm a pretty good student so I thought I would hub today about my tips for doing well on tests. The title of today's lesson is How to Study for a Big Test but these tips can be used for even the shortest of quizzes. My dad says these tips can even be used to prepare for job interviews!

As the title suggests, here are 5 easy tips for testing well:

Repetition

Repetition is still one of the most important techniques when preparing for a test. Repeat the word, phrase, sentence, or problem out loud and in writing. Do it multiple times until you are completely familiar with it and are retaining the information.

Flashcards

While doing the repetition steps above, kill two birds with one stone by making flashcards that you can use later for speed drills. Flashcards turn studying into a game which tends to help toward long term retention. Flashcards allow you to review the material and test yourself simultaneously.

Utilize All Available Resources.

While not a traditional step in the studying process, It is important for you to utilize all available resources when preparing for a test. Ask your instructor exactly what you should study and push for specifics. Assemble a study group with your friends and even get a tutor if you can.

Study in Spurts

All night cram sessions are usually not real effective. It's better to take short breaks to give your mind a break.Have a snack, move around, even take a short walk and you'll likely retain much more of what you're studying.

Sleep Tight

Don't stay up late studying before you test. It's more important that you get a good 8 hour rest before your exam. Your brain works best when it is well rested and well hydrated. Sleep tight and you'll probably test much better.

Yep I remember doing all of these for tests. Well except for the last one on sleeping. Sometimes was too nervous to really sleep well. :-) Great hub! I hope others read this and your words help them study for any major tests coming up.
