The Fountain of Youth is a spring of water that, according to legend restores the youth of anyone who drinks from it.
Tales of the Fountain of Youth have been told across the world for ages. They have appeared in the Herodotus and the stories of Prester John. These stories were also prominent among the indigenous population of the Caribbean during what we now term the Age of Exploration. In all cases, the legend speaks of the youthful restoration which can be achieved by consming just a single drop of the famed water.
The legend of the Fountain of became most prominent during the 16th century when it attached itself to the Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon. According to the early accounts, Ponce de Leon was searching for the Fountain of Youth and stumbled upon Florida in 1513. Since then, stories of this miraculous fountain have become strongly associated with that state.
